حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَا ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أَخْبَرَنِي بَشِيرُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ يَقُولُ وَجَدَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا فِي فَقِيرٍ أَوْ قَلِيبٍ مِنْ فُقُرِ أَوْ قُلُبِ خَيْبَرَ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَخُوهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَهْلٍ وَعَمَّاهُ حُوَيِّصَةُ وَمُحَيِّصَةُ ابْنَا مَسْعُودٍ فَذَهَبَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَتَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْكُبُرَ الْكُبُرَ» فَتَكَلَّمَ مُحَيِّصَةُ فَذَكَرَ مَقْتَلَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ قَتِيلًا وَإِنَّ الْيَهُودَ أَهْلُ كُفْرٍ وغَدْرٍ وَهُمُ الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَتَحْلِفُونَ خَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا وَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ صَاحِبَكُمْ أَوْ دَمَ صَاحِبِكُمْ» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ نَحْلِفُ عَلَى مَا لَمْ نَحْضُرْ وَلَمْ نَشْهَدْ؟ قَالَ «فَتَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكُمْ يَهُودُ بِخَمْسِينَ يَمِينًا» قَالُوا كَيْفَ نَقْبَلُ أَيْمَانَ قَوْمٍ مُشْرِكِينَ؟ فَوَدِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ قَالَ سَهْلٌ «فَلَقَدْ رَكَضَتْنِي بَكْرَةٌ مِنْهَا»

✧ He heard Sahl b. Abi Hathmah say: 'Abd Allah b. Sahl was found slain in a well or pit of the wells or pits of Khaybar. His brother 'Abd al-Rahman b. Sahl and his paternal uncles Huwayyisah and Muhayyisah, the two sons of Mas'ud, came to the Prophet ﷺ. 'Abd al-Rahman went to speak, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The eldest, the eldest.' So Muhayyisah spoke and mentioned the killing of 'Abd Allah b. Sahl. He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we found 'Abd Allah b. Sahl slain, and the Jews are a people of disbelief and treachery, and they are the ones who killed him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Will you swear fifty oaths and thus be entitled to your companion or the blood of your companion?' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how can we swear about what we did not witness or see?' He said, 'Then the Jews will absolve themselves to you with fifty oaths.' They said, 'How can we accept the oaths of a polytheist people?' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ paid the blood money from his own resources. Sahl said, 'A young she-camel from it kicked me.'
