حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خُلَيْدٍ الْحَلَبِيُّ ثنا أَبُو تَوْبَةَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَامٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَامٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيُّ

عَنْ سَهْلِ ابْنِ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ أَنَّهُمْ سَارُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ فَأَطْنَبُوا السَّيْرَ حَتَّى كَانَ عَشِيَّةً وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَارِسٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي انْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ حَتَّى طَلَعْتُ جَبَلَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِهَوَازِنَ عَلَى بَكْرَةِ أَبِيهِمْ بِظُعُنِهِمْ وَنَعَمِهِمْ وَشَائِهِمْ اجْتَمَعُوا إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ تِلْكَ غَنِيمَةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَنْ يَحْرُسُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ؟» فَقَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيُّ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ ارْكَبْ فَرَكِبَ فَرَسًا لَهُ فَجَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اسْتَقْبِلْ هَذَا الشِّعْبَ حَتَّى تَكُونَ فِي أَعْلَاهُ وَلَا تُغَرَّنَّ مِنْ قِبَلِكَ اللَّيْلَةَ» فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْنَا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى مُصَلَّاهُ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَلْ حَسَسْتُمْ فَارِسَكُمْ؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا حَسَسْنَاهُ فَثَوَّبَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَى الشِّعْبِ حَتَّى إِذَا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ «أَبْشِرُوا فَقَدْ جَاءَ فَارِسُكُمْ» فَجَعَلْنَا نَنْظُرُ إِلَى خِلَالِ الشَّجَرِ فِي الشِّعْبِ فَإِذَا هُوَ قَدْ جَاءَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي انْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُ فِي أَعْلَا هَذَا الشِّعْبِ حَيْثُ أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ طَلَعْتُ الشِّعْبَيْنِ كِلَيْهِمَا فَنَظَرْتُ فَلَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «نَزَلْتَ اللَّيْلَةَ؟» فَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا مُصَلِّيًا أَوْ قَاضِيَ حَاجَةٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ فَلَا عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَعْمَلَ بَعْدَهَا»

✧ From Sahl b. al-Hanzaliyyah: They marched with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn, and they prolonged the march until evening, and the time of prayer came upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I went ahead of you until I ascended such-and-such a mountain, and there I found Hawazin with all their people, their women, their livestock, and their sheep, gathered at Hunayn.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, 'That is the spoil of the Muslims tomorrow, if Allah wills.' Then he said, 'Who will guard us tonight?' Anas b. Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi said, 'I will, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Ride,' so he mounted a horse of his and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Face this mountain pass until you are at its top, and do not be taken by surprise from your direction tonight.' When morning came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to his place of prayer and prayed two rak'ahs, then said, 'Have you sensed your horseman?' A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, we have not sensed him.' He called for the prayer, and while praying, the Messenger of Allah kept turning toward the mountain pass until he finished his prayer and said the salam. Then he said, 'Rejoice, for your horseman has come.' We began looking through the gaps in the trees in the pass, and there he was, coming until he stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, 'I went until I was at the top of this pass, where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me. When morning came, I looked out over both passes and saw no one.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Did you dismount last night?' He said, 'No, except to pray or to relieve myself.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'You have made it obligatory, so no matter what you do after this, it will not harm you.'
