حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ وَزَكَرِيَّا السَّاجِيُّ قَالَا ثنا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الذَّرَّاعُ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
جَاءَ الْحَارِثُ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ شَاطِرْنَا تَمْرَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ «حَتَّى أَسْتَأْمِرَ السُّعُودَ» فَبَعَثَ إِلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ وَسَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ وَسَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ وَسَعْدِ بْنِ خَيْثَمَةَ وَسَعْدِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَحِمَهُمُ اللهُ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ الْعَرَبَ قَدْ رَمَتْكُمْ عَنْ قَوْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَإِنَّ الْحَارِثَ يَسْأَلُكُمْ أَنْ تُشَاطِرُوهُ تَمْرَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَإِنْ أَرَدْتُمْ أَنْ تَدْفَعُوا إِلَيْهِ عَامَكُمْ هَذَا حَتَّى تَنْظُرُوا فِي أَمْرِكُمْ بَعْدُ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَوَحْيٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَالتَّسْلِيمُ لِأَمْرِ اللهِ أَوْ عَنْ رَأْيِكَ أَوْ هَوَاكَ فَرَأْيُنَا تَبَعٌ لِهَوَاكَ ورَأْيِكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ إِنَّمَا تُرِيدُ الْإِبْقَاءَ عَلَيْنَا فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَإِيَّاهُمْ عَلَى سَوَاءٍ مَا يَنَالُونَ مِنَّا تَمْرَةً إِلَّا بِشِرًى أَوْ قِرًى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هُوَ ذَا تَسْمَعُونَ مَا يَقُولُونَ» قَالُوا غَدَرْتَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَقَالَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ

✧ Al-Harith al-Ghatafani came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “O Muhammad, share with us the dates of Madinah.” He said, “Until I consult the Sa'ds.” So he sent for Sa'd b. Mu'adh, Sa'd b. 'Ubadah, Sa'd b. al-Rabi', Sa'd b. Khaythamah, and Sa'd b. Mas'ud, may Allah have mercy on them. He said, “I know that the Arabs have shot at you from a single bow, and al-Harith is asking you to share with him the dates of Madinah. If you wish to give him this year of yours until you consider your affairs afterward…” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, is it revelation from heaven, so submission is to Allah's command, or is it your own opinion or desire? Our opinion follows your desire and opinion. If you only intend to preserve us, by Allah, we have seen ourselves and them on equal footing: they do not get a single date from us except by purchase or hospitality.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There, you hear what they say.” They said, “You have acted treacherously, O Muhammad.” Hassan b.
