✧ Umayyah said to Sa'd: “Wait until midday when the people are heedless, then go and circumambulate.” While Sa'd was circumambulating the Ka'bah safely, Abu Jahl came to him and said, “Who is this circumambulating the Ka'bah safely?” Sa'd said, “I am Sa'd.” Abu Jahl said, “You circumambulate the House safely while you have sheltered Muhammad and his companions?” There was an exchange between them until Umayyah said to Sa'd, “Do not raise your voice over Abu al-Hakam, for he is the chief of the people of the valley.” Sa'd said to him, “By Allah, if you prevent me from circumambulating the House, I will cut off your trade route to Syria.” Umayyah kept saying to Sa'd, “Do not raise your voice over Abu al-Hakam,” trying to restrain him. Sa'd became angry and said, “Leave us alone. For I heard Muhammad ﷺ claim that he will kill you.” He said, “Me?” Sa'd said, “Yes.” He said, “By Allah, Muhammad does not lie.” When they went out, he returned to his wife and said, “Do you know what my Yathribi brother said?” He informed her, and Umayyah’s wife said, “Muhammad will not leave us alone.” When the call to arms came and they went out to Badr, she said to him, “Do you not remember what your Yathribi brother said to you?” He wanted not to go out, but Abu Jahl said, “You are one of the nobles of the people of the valley, so march with us for a day or two.” He marched with them, and Allah killed him.
