حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ عِيسَى الْكُوفِيِّ ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ الْمُعْتَمِرِ حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاهِدُ بْنُ جَبْرٍ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ قَالَ
غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَقِيَهِ الْمُشْرِكُونَ بِعُسْفَانَ وَعَلَى خَيْلِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَحَضَرَتْنَا صَلَاةُ الظُّهْرِ فَأَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ فَهَمَّ الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَنْ يَحْمِلُوا عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِنَّهَا سَتَحْضُرُهُمْ صَلَاةٌ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَوْلَادِهِمْ يَعْنُونَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِالْآيَاتِ الَّتِي فِيهَا صَلَاةُ الْخَوْفِ «فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَذَّنَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ وَأَقَامَ فَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ يَوْمَئِذٍ مِمَّا يَلِي الْقِبْلَةَ فَرَكَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَرَكَعْنَا ثُمَّ سَجَدَ وَسَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَقَامَ الْمُؤَخَّرُ فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا مِنْ سُجُودِهِمْ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ فَتَلَاوَمَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ بَيْنَهُمْ» قَالَ أَبُو عَيَّاشٍ «فَصَلَّى بِنَا فِي أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ أَيْضًا مِثْلَهَا»

✧ We went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the polytheists met us at 'Usfan, with their cavalry that day led by Khalid b. al-Walid. When the time for Zuhr prayer came upon us, the mu'adhdhin called the adhan and then the iqamah. The polytheists intended to attack us, but some of them said: "A prayer will come upon them that is dearer to them than their children"—meaning the 'Asr prayer. Jibril ﷺ brought him the verses containing the prayer of fear. "When the prayer was due, the mu'adhdhin called the adhan and the iqamah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped forward and we formed two rows behind him, while the polytheists that day were on the side of the qiblah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ bowed and we bowed. Then he prostrated and the row nearest to him prostrated, while the rear row remained standing. When they finished their prostration, the rear row prostrated. The polytheists blamed one another." Abu 'Ayyash said: "He also led us in a similar prayer in the land of Banu Sulaym."
