حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ قَالَا ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ يَقُولُ لَمَّا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أُحُدٍ رَجَعَ قَوْمٌ مِنَ الطَّرِيقِ فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِيهِمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ فِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ اقْبَلْهُمْ وَفِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ لَا تَقْبَلْهُمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللهُ أَرْكَسَهُمْ بِمَا كَسَبُوا}

✧ I heard Zayd b. Thabit say: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Uhud, some people turned back from the road. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ split into two groups concerning them: one group said, “Accept them,” and another group said, “Do not accept them.” Then Allah ﷻ revealed: {So what is the matter with you that you are two factions concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has cast them back for what they earned}.
