حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ نِبْرَاسٍ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ثنا ثَابِتٌ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ بِالزَّاوِيَةِ إِذْ سَمِعَ الْأَذَانَ فَنَزَلَ وَنَزَلَتُ مَعَهُ فَلَمَّا

أَنِ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مَشَى بِي ثُمَّ قَارَبَ فِي الْخُطَى حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَقَالَ أَتَدْرِي يَا ثَابِتُ لِمَ مَشَيْتُ بِكَ هَذِهِ الْمِشْيَةَ حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ؟ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَشَى بِي هَذِهِ الْمِشْيَةَ وَقَالَ «أَتَدْرِي لِمَ مَشَيْتُ بِكَ هَذِهِ الْمِشْيَةَ؟» قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «لِيَكْثُرَ عَدَدُ الْخُطَى فِي طَلَبِ الصَّلَاةِ»

✧ When he was on level ground, he walked with me, then he shortened his steps until I entered the mosque. He said, “Do you know, O Thābit, why I walked with you in this manner until I entered the mosque? The Prophet ﷺ walked with me in this manner and said, ‘Do you know why I walked with you in this manner?’ I said, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘So that the number of steps increases in seeking the prayer.’”
