حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ الْمُسَاوِرِ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا وُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ قَالَ لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَامَ خُطَبَاءُ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالُوا يَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ «إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا بَعَثَ رَجُلًا مِنْكُمْ قَرَنَهُ بِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا» فَنَحْنُ نَرَى أَنْ يَلِيَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ رَجُلَانِ رَجُلٌ مِنْكُمْ وَرَجُلٌ مِنَّا فَقَامَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَكُنَّا أَنْصَارَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَنَحْنُ أَنْصَارُ مَنْ يَقُومُ مَقَامَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ جَزَاكُمُ اللهُ خَيْرًا مِنْ حَيٍّ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ وَثَبَّتَ قَائِلُكُمْ وَاللهِ لَوْ قُلْتُ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ مَا صَالَحْنَاكُمْ

✧ Abū Sa'īd al-Khudrī ؓ said: When the Prophet ﷺ died, the orators of the Anṣār stood up and said: O assembly of the Muhājirūn, the Messenger of God ﷺ, when he sent one of you, he paired him with one of us. So we think that this matter should be undertaken by two men: one from you and one from us. Then Zayd b. Thābit stood and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ was from the Muhājirūn, and we were the supporters of the Messenger of God ﷺ, so we will be the supporters of whoever takes his place. Abū Bakr ؓ said: May God reward you with good, O assembly of the Anṣār, and may He make firm the one who spoke among you. By God, if you had said otherwise, we would not have made peace with you.
