al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (al-Tabarani) 4656

✧ Zaid bin Haritha bin Sharahil bin Ka'ab bin Abdul Uzza bin Yazid bin Amr al-Qays al-Kalbi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , martyred on the Day of Mu'tah in the 8th year.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ

ثُمَّ مَضَى النَّاسُ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا بِتُخُومِ الْبَلْقَاءِ لَقِيَهُمْ جُمُوعُ هِرَقْلَ وَانْحَازَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ إِلَى قَرْيَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا مُؤْتَةُ فَالْتَقَى النَّاسُ عِنْدَهَا وتَعَبَّأَ لَهُمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ فَجَعَلُوا عَلَى مَيْمَنَتِهِمْ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي عُذْرَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ قُطْبَةُ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ وَعَلَى مَيْسَرَتِهِمْ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبَايَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ثُمَّ الْتَقَى النَّاسُ فَقَاتَلَ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ بِرَايَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى شَاطَ فِي رِمَاحِ الْقَوْمِ

✧ Then the people went on until, when they were at the borders of al-Balqāʾ, the hosts of Heraclius met them. The Muslims withdrew to a village called Muʾta, and the people met there. The Muslims arrayed themselves and placed on their right wing a man from Banū ʿUdhra called Quṭba b. Qatāda, and on their left wing a man from the Anṣār called ʿAbāya b. Mālik. Then the people met, and Zayd b. Ḥāritha fought with the banner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he was pierced by the spears of the people.
