حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا مُسْتَلِمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أَنَا خُبَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ خُبَيْبٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَا وَرَجُلٌ مِنْ قَوْمِي قَبْلَ أَنْ نُسْلِمَ فَقُلْنَا إِنَّا لَنَسْتَحِي أَنْ يَشْهَدَ قَوْمُنَا مَشْهَدًا لَا نَشْهَدُهُ مَعَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَقَدْ أَسْلَمْتُمْ؟» قُلْنَا لَا فَقَالَ «أَنَا لَا أَسْتَعِينُ بِالْمُشْرِكِينَ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ» فَأَسْلَمْنَا وَشَهِدْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I and a man from my people, before we had embraced Islam, and we said: 'We feel ashamed that our people should witness a scene that we do not witness with them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: 'Have you embraced Islam?' We said: 'No.' He said: 'I do not seek help from the polytheists against the polytheists.' So we embraced Islam and witnessed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
