حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ لُوَيْنٌ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ فَحَدَّثَ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَنَّهُ «§مَنْ قَالَ

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ مَرَّةً أَوْ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ كَانَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ يَعْدِلُ رَقَبَةً أَوْ عَشَرَ رِقَابٍ» قُلْتُ مِمَّنُ سَمِعْتَهُ؟ قَالَ مِنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَحَدَّثَ فَقُلْتُ مِمَّنْ سَمِعْتَهُ؟ قَالَ مِنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

Translation

✧ …‘There is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent’ once or ten times, that will equal a slave or ten slaves for him.” I said, “From whom did you hear it?” He said, “From ‘Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Layla.” So I went to him, and he narrated it. I said, “From whom did you hear it?” He said, “From Abu Ayyub, narrating from the Prophet ﷺ.”
