حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ ثنا الْمُسَيِّبُ بْنُ وَاضِحٍ ثنا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثنا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ
أَنَّهُ شَكَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَجِدُ فَزَعًا بِاللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ عَلَّمَنِيهِنَّ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَزَعَمَ أَنَّ عِفْرِيتًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ يَكِيدُنِي قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ الَّتِي لَا يُجَاوِزُهُنَّ بَرٌّ وَلَا فَاجِرٌ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا يَعْرُجُ فِيهَا وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا ذَرَأَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتَنِ اللَّيْلِ وَفِتَنِ النَّهَارِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ طَوَارِقِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ إِلَّا طَارِقًا يَطْرُقُ بِخَيْرٍ يَا رَحْمَانُ

✧ He complained to the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying: “I feel terror at night.” He said: “Shall I not teach you words that Jibrīl ﷺ taught me? He claimed that an ʿifrīt of the jinn was scheming against me.” He said: “I seek refuge in the perfect words of God, which neither a righteous nor a wicked person can surpass, from the evil of what descends from heaven and what ascends in it, from the evil of what He has scattered in the earth and what emerges from it, from the evil of the trials of the night and the trials of the day, and from the evil of the night visitors and day visitors, except a visitor who comes with good, O Merciful.”
