حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ

أَتَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ بِرِدَاءٍ لَهُ فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَدْعُو اللهَ أَلَا تَسْتَنْصِرُ؟ فَجَلَسَ مُحْمَرًّا وَجْهُهُ غَضْبَانًا ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَقَدْ كَانَ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ وَإِنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ لَتُحْفَرُ لَهُ الْحُفْرَةُ ثُمَّ يُوضَعُ فِيهَا ثُمَّ يُوضَعُ الْمِنْشَارُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثُمَّ يُمْشَطُ بِأَمْشَاطِ الْحَدِيدِ مَا دُونَ عَظْمِهِ فَمَا يَصْرِفُهُ ذَلِكَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَلَكِنَّكُمْ تَعْجَلُونَ وَاللهِ لَيُتَمَّنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ الرَّاكِبُ مِنْ صَنْعَاءَ إِلَى حَضْرَمَوْتَ لَا يَخَافُ إِلَّا اللهَ وَالذِّئْبَ عَلَى غَنَمِهِ»

Translation

✧ We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was reclining on a cloak of his in the shade of the Kaaba. We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, won't you supplicate to Allah? Won't you seek victory?' He sat up, his face red with anger, then said, 'Among those before you, a pit would be dug for a man, then he would be placed in it, then a saw would be placed on his head, then he would be combed with iron combs down to his bones, and that would not turn him away from his religion. But you are hasty. By Allah, this affair will surely be completed until a rider travels from Sana'a to Hadramawt fearing nothing but Allah and the wolf for his sheep.'
