حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا قَيْسٌ عَنْ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ قَالَ

شَكَوْنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ بُرْدَةً لَهُ فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقُلْنَا أَلَا تَسْتَنْصِرُ لَنَا أَلَا تَدْعُو لَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ كَانَ مَنْ قَبْلَكُمْ يُؤْخَذُ الرَّجُلُ فَيُمْشَطُ بِأَمْشَاطِ الْحَدِيدِ مَا دُونَ لَحْمِهِ وَعَظْمِهِ فَمَا يُصَدُّ ذَلِكَ عَنْ دِينِهِ وَاللهِ لَيُتَمَّنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرُ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ الرَّاكِبُ مِنْ صَنْعَاءَ إِلَى حَضْرَمَوْتَ لَا يَخَافُ إِلَّا اللهَ أَوِ الذِّئْبَ عَلَى غَنَمِهِ وَلَكِنَّكُمْ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ»

Translation

✧ We complained to the Prophet ﷺ while he was reclining on a cloak of his in the shade of the Kaaba. We said, 'Won't you seek victory for us? Won't you supplicate for us?' He said, 'Among those before you, a man would be seized and combed with iron combs down to his flesh and bones, and that would not turn him away from his religion. By Allah, this affair will surely be completed until a rider travels from Sana'a to Hadramawt fearing nothing but Allah, or the wolf for his sheep. But you are hasty.'
