حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَذُوعِيُّ الْقَاضِي حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ ثنا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالُوا ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أُتِي بِلِصٍّ فَقَالَ «اقْتُلُوهُ» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا سَرَقَ قَالَ «اقْتُلُوهُ» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا سَرَقَ قَالَ «اقْطَعُوا يَدَهُ» ثُمَّ سَرَقَ فَقُطِعَتْ رِجْلُهُ ثُمَّ سَرَقَ عَلَى عَهْدِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ حَتَّى قُطِعَتْ قَوَائِمُهُ كُلُّهَا ثُمَّ سَرَقَ الْخَامِسَةَ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَعْلَمَ بِهَذَا حِينَ قَالَ «اقْتُلُوهُ»

✧ A thief was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said, 'Kill him.' They said, 'O Messenger of God, he only stole.' He said, 'Kill him.' They said, 'O Messenger of God, he only stole.' He said, 'Cut off his hand.' Then he stole, and his foot was cut off. Then he stole during the caliphate of Abu Bakr ؓ until all his limbs were cut off. Then he stole a fifth time, and Abu Bakr ؓ said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ was more knowledgeable about this when he said, "Kill him."'
