حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ
ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ أَبِي سِنَانٍ الدُّؤَلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ وَنَحْنُ حُدَثَاءُ عَهْدٍ بِكُفْرٍ ولِلْمُشْرِكِينَ سِدْرَةٌ يَعْكُفُونَ عِنْدَهَا ويَنُوطُونَ بِهَا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهَا ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ قَالَ فَمَرَرْنَا بِالسِّدْرَةِ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اجْعَلْ لَنَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ كَمَا لَهُمْ ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اللهُ أَكْبَرُ إِنَّهَا السُّنَنُ قُلْتُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ {اجْعَلْ لَنَا إِلَهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ} لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سَنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ

✧ Al-Qa'nabi narrated to us from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Sinan b. Abi Sinan al-Du'ali, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Hunayn while we were new converts from disbelief. The polytheists had a lote tree at which they would devote themselves and hang their weapons, called Dhat Anwat. He said: We passed by the lote tree and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, make for us a Dhat Anwat as they have a Dhat Anwat.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Allah is most great! These are the ways. You have said, by the One in whose hand is my soul, as the Children of Israel said: {Make for us a god as they have gods. He said: You are a people who are ignorant.} You will surely follow the ways of those before you.'
