حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ اسْتَأْذَنَنِي حُسَيْنٌ فِي الْخُرُوجِ فَقُلْتُ لَوْلَا

أَنْ يُزْرِيَ ذَلِكَ بِي أَوْ بِكَ لَشَبَكْتُ بِيَدِي فِي رَأْسِكَ قَالَ فَكَانَ الَّذِي رَدَّ عَلَيَّ أَنْ قَالَ «لَأَنْ أُقْتَلَ بِمَكَانِ كَذَا وَكَذَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يُسْتَحَلَّ بِي حَرَمُ اللهِ وَرَسُولِهِ» قَالَ فَذَلِكَ الَّذِي سَلَى بِنَفْسِي عَنْهُ

Translation

✧ “That this should disparage me or you, I would have clasped my hand in your head.” He said: But what he replied to me was: “That I should be killed at such-and-such a place is dearer to me than that the sanctity of Allah and His Messenger should be violated through me.” He said: That is what consoled me about him.
