حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ رَقَبَةَ بْنِ مَصْقَلَةَ قَالَ لَمَّا حُضِرَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ
أَخْرِجُونِي إِلَى الصَّحْرَاءِ لَعَلِيِّ أَنْظُرُ فِي مَلَكُوتِ السَّمَاوَاتِ يَعْنِي الْآيَاتِ فَلَمَّا أُخْرِجَ بِهِ قَالَ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَحْتَسِبُ نَفْسِي عِنْدَكَ فَإِنَّهَا أَعَزُّ الْأَنْفُسِ عَلَيَّ وَكَانَ مِمَّا صَنَعَ اللهُ لَهُ أَنَّهُ احْتَسَبَ نَفْسَهُ»

✧ Take me out to the open desert so that I may look at the dominion of the heavens, meaning the signs. When he was taken out, he said: “O God, I seek reward from You for my soul, for it is the dearest of souls to me.” And it was part of what God did for him that he sought reward for his soul.
