حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا شِهَابُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ثنا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ عَنْ مُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بِالْبَوَارِيجِ فَرَاحَتِ الْبَقَرُ فَرَأَى بَقَرَةً أَنْكَرَهَا فَقَالَ لِلرَّاعِي مَا هَذِهِ قَالُوا هَذِهِ بَقَرَةٌ لَحِقِتْ بِالْبَقَرِ لَا يُدْرَى لِمَنْ هِي فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَطُرِدَتْ حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يُؤْوِي الضَّالَّةَ إِلَّا ضَالٌّ»

✧ I was with my father at al-Bawarij when the cattle returned in the evening. He saw a cow he did not recognize and said to the herder: “What is this?” They said: “This is a cow that joined the herd; it is not known whose it is.” He ordered that it be driven away until it disappeared from his sight. Then he said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘No one shelters a stray animal except one who is astray.’”
