حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ ثنا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ وَالشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَا قَالَ
جَرِيرٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ أُبَايِعُكَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِيمَا أَحْبَبْتُ وَكَرِهْتُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَتَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِكَ يَا جَرِيرُ؟ أَوْ تُطِيقُ ذَلِكَ؟ قُلْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ» قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ قَالَ فَبَايَعَنِي وَعَلَى النُّصْحِ لِلْمُسْلِمِ

✧ Jarir said: I saw the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I pledge allegiance to you upon hearing and obedience in what I like and dislike." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Are you able to do that, O Jarir? Or can you bear that? Say: as much as I am able." He said: I said, "As much as I am able." He said: Then he accepted my allegiance, and upon sincere counsel to the Muslim."
