حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُطِيعٍ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ
دَخَلَ عُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ حِصْنٍ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَأُتِيَ بِمَاءٍ فَسَتَرَهُ فَشَرِبَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ «الْحَيَاءُ وَالْإِيمَانُ أُوتُوهُمَا وَمُنِعْتُمُوهُما»

✧ ʿUyaynah b. Ḥiṣn entered upon the Prophet ﷺ while a man was with him. He asked for water, and it was brought, and he screened it and drank. He said, “What is this?” He said, “Modesty and faith: they were given these two, and you were deprived of them.”
