حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَتْنَا حُبَابَةُ بِنْتُ عَجْلَانَ الْخُزَاعِيَّةُ قَالَتْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمِّي حَفْصَةُ عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ أُمِّ حَكِيمٍ بِنْتِ وَدَاعٍ الْخُزَاعِيَّةِ قَالَتْ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا جَزَاءُ الْغَنِيِّ مِنَ الْفَقِيرِ؟ قَالَ «النَّصِيحَةُ وَالدُّعَاءُ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ نَكْرَهُ رَدَّ اللُّطْفِ قَالَ «مَا أَقْبَحَهُ لَوْ أُهْدِيَ إِلَيَّ كُرَاعٌ لَقَبِلْتُ وَلَوْ دُعِيتُ إِلَى ذِرَاعٍ لَأَجَبْتُ»

✧ I said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is the reward of the rich from the poor?” He said: “Sincere advice and supplication.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, we dislike refusing a kindness.” He said: “How ugly it is! If a trotter were gifted to me, I would accept it, and if I were invited to a foreleg, I would respond.”
