حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْخَشَّابُ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ أُمِّ الْحُصَيْنِ قَالَتْ

حَجَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ فَرَأَيْتُ بِلَالًا وَأُسَامَةَ وَبِلَالٌ يَقُودُ بِخِطَامِ رَاحِلَتِهِ وَالآخَرُ رَافِعًا ثَوْبَهُ سُتْرَةً بِهِ مِنَ الْحَرِّ حَتَّى رَمَى جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ جَعَلَ ثَوْبَهُ تَحْتَ إِبْطِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ عَلَى عَاتِقِهِ الْأَيْسَرِ فَرَأَيْتُ تَحْتَ عُرْصُوفِ كَتِفِهِ الْأَيْمَنِ كَهَيْأَةِ جَمْعٍ فَوَقَفَ لِلنَّاسِ فَقَالَ قَوْلًا كَثِيرًا فَكَانَ مِمَّا يَقُولُ إِنْ «أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ أَسْوَدُ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ فَاسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا»

✧ I performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of God ﷺ. I saw Bilal and Usamah, with Bilal leading his mount by the nose-rein and the other holding up his garment as a shade from the heat, until he threw the pebbles at Jamrat al-ʿAqabah. Then he departed, having placed his garment under his right armpit over his left shoulder. I saw beneath the joint of his right shoulder something like a seal or a gathering. He stood for the people and spoke at length. Among what he said was, "If a black Abyssinian slave is placed in authority over you, leading you by the Book of God, then listen and obey."
