✧ She said to her family, 'Do not tell Abu Talha of my son's death until I am the one who tells him.' He came, and she brought near his dinner and drink. He ate and drank. Then she adorned herself for him better than she had ever done before. When he was full and had quenched his thirst, he lay with her. When she knew that he was full, had quenched his thirst, and had satisfied his need from her, she said, 'O Abu Talha, suppose the people of a household lent their loan to another household, and then asked for their loan back, would they have the right to withhold their loan?' He said, 'No.' She said, 'Then expect reward for your son.' She said, 'He became angry and said, "You left me until I became defiled, then you tell me of my son's death." He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not see what Umm Sulaym did, such and such?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah bless you both in the remainder of your night." He said, 'That night she conceived.' He said, 'She and Abu Talha were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When they approached Madinah, labor pains seized her. Abu Talha stayed behind with her, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on.' He said, 'Abu Talha said, "O Lord, You know that it pleased me to go out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he went out and to enter with him when he entered. Here she is detained as You see."' He said, 'Umm Sulaym said, "O Abu Talha, I no longer feel what I felt. Go with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He went until he arrived with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Labor pains struck her, and she gave birth to a boy. My mother said to me, "O Anas, do not let him taste anything until you take him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the morning."' He said, 'I spent that night watching over him, bent over him while he cried, until morning. I took him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found a branding iron in his hand. When he saw the infant with me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perhaps Umm Sulaym has given birth?" I said, "Yes." He put down the branding iron and sat. I brought the infant and placed him in his lap. He called for some pressed dates from Madinah, chewed them in his mouth until they dissolved, then placed them in the infant's mouth. The infant smacked his lips. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Look at the Ansar's love of dates." Then he wiped his face and named him Abdullah.'
