✧ He heard Anas b. Malik say: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day and found him sitting with his companions, talking to them, and he had tied a stone over his stomach. I said to one of his companions, “Why has the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tied his stomach?” He said, “From hunger.” So I went to Abu Talhah, who was the husband of Umm Sulaym bt. Milhan, and said, “O father, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tie his stomach with a band. I asked one of his companions, and he said, ‘From hunger.’” Abu Talhah went in to my mother and said, “Is there anything?” She said, “I have pieces of bread and some dates. If the Prophet ﷺ comes alone, we can satisfy him; but if someone comes with him, it will be too little for them.” Abu Talhah said, “Go, O Anas, and stand near the Messenger of Allah. When he gets up, invite him after his companions and those with him have dispersed. When he stands at the threshold of his door, say, ‘My father invites you.’” I did that. When I said, “My father invites you,” he said to his companions, “O these, come.” Then he took my hand and squeezed it, and came with his companions until they drew near our house. Then he released my hand, and I entered feeling sad because of the large number who came with him. I said, “O father, I said to the Messenger of Allah what you told me, and he called his companions and has come with them.” Abu Talhah went out to them and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I only sent Anas to invite you alone, and I do not have enough to satisfy those I see.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Enter, for Allah ﷻ will satisfy them with what you have.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered with me and said, “Gather whatever you have and bring it near.” Those with him sat at the doorstep. I brought what we had of bread and dates, and we placed it on our mat. He invoked blessing over it, then said, “Admit eight to me.” I admitted eight, and he placed his palm over the food and said, “Eat and mention the name of Allah.” They ate from between his fingers until they were full. Then he ordered me, and I admitted eight more while the first group left. They entered and ate until they were full. Then he ordered me, and I admitted eight more. He continued like that until eighty men entered, all eating until full. Then he called me and my mother and Abu Talhah and said, “Eat.” We ate until we were full. Then he lifted his hand and said, “O Umm Sulaym, where is this compared to your food when you presented it?” She said, “May my father and mother be ransomed for you! Had I not seen them eating, I would have said that nothing of our food had decreased.”
