حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا ابْنُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيٍِّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ لَمَا حَضَرَتْ كَعْبًا الْوَفَاةُ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ بِشْرٍ بْنُتُ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ مَعْرُورٍ فَقَالَتْ

يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنْ لَقِيتَ ابْنِي فَأَقْرئْهُ مِنَّي السَّلَامَ قَالَ يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ بِشْرٍ نُحْنُ أَسْفَلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ أَرْوَاحَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي أَجْوَافِ طَيْرٍ خُضْرٍ تَعَلَّقُ بِشَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ» ؟ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَتْ فَهُوَ ذَاكَ

✧ “O Abu Abd al-Rahman, if you meet my son, convey to him my greetings of peace.” He said, “May Allah forgive you, O Umm Bishr; we are lower than that.” She said, “O Abu Abd al-Rahman, have you not heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Indeed the souls of the believers are in the crops of green birds, perched upon the trees of Paradise’?” He said, “Yes indeed.” She said, “Then that is it.”
