حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الرَّقَاشِيُّ ثنا رَافِعُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ جُعَيْلٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ
غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي بَعْضِ غَزَوَاتِهِ وَأَنَا عَلَى فَرَسٍ لِي عَجْفَاءَ ضَعِيفَةً فَكُنْتُ فِي آخِرِ النَّاسِ فَلَحِقَنِي فَقَالَ «سِرْ يَا صَاحِبَ الْفَرَسِ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَجْفَاءُ ضَعِيفَةٌ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِخْفَقَةً كَانَتْ مَعَهُ فَضَرَبَهَا بِهَا وَقَالَ «اللهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُ فِيهَا» قَالَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَمْسِكُ رَأْسَهَا أَنْ تَقَدَّمَ النَّاسَ قَالَ وَلَقَدْ بِعْتُ مِنْ بَطْنِهَا بِاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ أَلْفًا

✧ I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in one of his expeditions, and I was riding an emaciated, weak mare of mine, so I was at the rear of the people. He caught up with me and said, “Walk on, O owner of the horse.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, she is emaciated and weak.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised a whip he had with him and struck her with it, and said, “O Allah, bless him in her.” He said: I saw myself holding her head back so that she would not outrun the people. He said: And I sold one of her foals for twelve thousand.
