حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ثنا مِسْعَرُ بْنُ كِدَامٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقَتَّاتُ الْكُوفِيُّ قَالَ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ عَنْ قُتَيْلَةَ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُمْ قَالَتْ

جَاءَ يَهُودِيٌّ وَحَبْرٌ إِلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ وَإِنَّكُمْ تُنَدِّدُونَ تَقُولُونَ لَا وَالْكَعْبَةِ وَتَقُولُونَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشِئْتَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَقُولُوا «لَا وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ وَأَنْ يَقُولُوا مَا شَاءَ اللهُ ثُمَّ شِئْتَ»

Translation

✧ A Jew and a learned man (habr) came to the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "You associate partners with Allah and you set up rivals. You say, 'No, by the Ka'bah,' and you say, 'What Allah wills and you will.'" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to say, "No, by the Lord of the Ka'bah," and to say, "What Allah wills, then you will."
