✧ From 'Amir al-Sha'bi: Fatimah bt. Qays narrated to me, and she had been married to Abu Hafs b. 'Amr or 'Amr b. Hafs. She came to the Prophet ﷺ regarding maintenance and lodging. He said to her, "Listen, O daughter of Qays," and he gestured with his hand, extending it over part of his face as if shielding himself from her and as if saying, "Be quiet. Maintenance is only for a woman from her husband as long as he has the right to take her back. So she has no maintenance and no lodging. Go to so-and-so," or he said, "Umm Sharik, and observe your 'iddah with her." Then he said, "No, that is a woman to whom people gather," or he said, "at whose place people converse. Observe your 'iddah in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum."
