حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنِ الْجَرَّاحِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ أَخَذَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بِيَدِي فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ ابْنُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ يُصَلِّي إِلَى أُسْطُوَانَةٍ فَجَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ حَدِّثْنَا بِحَدِيثِ أُمِّكَ فِي الرُّقْيَةِ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمِّي

أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَرْقِي بِرُقْيَةٍ لَهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ قَالَتْ لَا أَرْقِي بِهَا حَتَّى أسْتَأْذِنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَاسْتَأْمَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «ارْقِ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهَا شِرْكٌ»

✧ She used to perform a ruqyah incantation of hers from the pre-Islamic era (jahiliyyah), and when Islam came she said, “I will not perform it until I ask the Messenger of God ﷺ for permission.” So I went to him and sought his counsel, and he said, “Perform the ruqyah as long as it contains no shirk (associating partners with God).”
