حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُهَاجِرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنَا أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ يَزِيدَ قَالَتْ

دُعِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى جِنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَلَمَّا وُضِعَ السَّرِيرُ تَقَدَّمَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ لِيُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ فَقَالَ «عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ دَيْنٌ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ دِينَارَيْنِ فَقَالَ «صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ» فَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ إِنَّا نَدِينُهُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ was invited to the funeral of a man from the Ansar. When the bier was placed down, the Prophet of God ﷺ stepped forward to pray over him, then turned and said: “Does your companion owe a debt?” They said: “Yes, O Messenger of God, two dinars.” He said: “Pray over your companion.” Abu Qatadah said: “We will pay it on his behalf, O Prophet of God.” So he prayed over him.
