حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عُمَرُ لأَسْماءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ سَبَقْنَاكُمْ بِالْهِجْرَةِ فَقَالَتْ «أَجَلْ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ سَبَقْتُمُونَا وَكُنَّا عِنْدَ الْحُفَاةِ الْعُرَاةِ وَكُنْتُمْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُ جَاهِلَكُمْ وَيُفَقِّهُ عَالِمَكُمْ وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِمَعَالِي الْأَخْلَاقِ»

Translation

✧ 'Umar said to Asma' bt. 'Umays, "We preceded you in the Hijrah." She replied, "Yes, by Allah, you did precede us, and we were among the barefoot and naked, while you were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—he taught your ignorant and instructed your learned, and commanded you to noble character."
