Safiyyah b. Huyay b. Akhtab, Wife of the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مُسَافِرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ

أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَيٍّ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَزُورُهُ وَهُوَ مُعْتَكِفٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْعَوَابِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَتَحَدَّثَتْ عِنْدَهُ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ قَامَتْ تَنْقَلِبُ وَقَامَ مَعَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَقَلُّبَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا طَلَعَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ عِنْدَ بَابِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَسَلَّمَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ نَفَذَا فَقَالَ لَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا مَا هِيَ صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيٍّ» قَالَا سُبْحَانَ اللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكَبُرَ عَلَيْهِمَا مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَبْلُغُ مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ مَبْلَغَ الدَّمِ وَإِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُقْذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمَا شَيْئًا»

✧ Safiyyah bint Huyay, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, informed him that she came to visit the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in i'tikaf in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan. She spoke with him for a while, then she stood up to leave, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up with her to escort her. When she reached near the door of the mosque, by the door of Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, two men of the Ansar passed by. They greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and then went on. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, 'Slow down! She is Safiyyah bint Huyay.' They said, 'Glory be to Allah, O Messenger of Allah,' and what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said weighed heavily on them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Satan reaches through a person to the extent of the blood, and I feared that he might cast something into your hearts.'
