حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ مِقْسَمًا قَالَ
قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثٍ ثُمَّ أَخْرُجُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَفُوتَنِي فَقَالَ «لَا يَصْلُحُ إِلَّا بِخَمْسٍ أَوْ سَبْعٍ» فَأَخْبَرْتُ مُجَاهِدًا وَيَحْيَى بْنَ الْجَزَّارِ بِقَوْلِهِ فَقَالَا لِي أَلَا سَأَلْتَهُ عَمَّنْ؟ فَقَالَ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ عَنِ الثِّقَةِ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ وَعَائِشَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

✧ I said: “I perform witr with three [rak‘ahs], then go out to the prayer fearing that I might miss it.” He said: “It is not valid except with five or seven.” I informed Mujahid and Yahya b. al-Jazzar of his statement, and they said to me: “Did you not ask him from whom?” [He said:] “So I asked him, and he said: ‘From the trustworthy one, from Maymunah and ‘A’ishah, from the Prophet ﷺ.’”
