حَدَّثَنَا الْخَلَّالُ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ثنا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَالَتْ
أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ امْرَأَةٌ تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا أَتَأْذَنُ فِي الْكُحْلِ؟ فَقَالَ قَدْ كَانَتْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ زَوْجُهَا أَخَذَتْ بَعْرَةً فَرَمَتْ بِهَا خَلْفَ ظَهْرِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَتْ لَا أَكْتَحِلُ حَتَّى تُحَوَّلَ هَذِهِ الْبَعْرَةُ وَإِنَّمَا هِيَ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا

✧ Umm Salamah: O Messenger of God, a woman whose husband has died—do you permit kohl? He said, "One of you used to, when her husband died, take a piece of dung and throw it behind her back, then say: 'I will not apply kohl until this dung is transformed.' But it is only four months and ten days."
