حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدٌ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ فَقَالَ يَا أُمَّهُ قَدْ خَشِيتُ
أَنْ يُهْلِكَنِي كَثْرَةُ مَالِي أَنَا أَكْثَرُ قُرَيْشٍ مَالًا فَقَالَتْ يَا بُنَيَّ تَصَدَّقْ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ مِنْ أَصْحَابِي مَنْ لَنْ يَرَنِي بَعْدَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ» فَخَرَجَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَلَقِيَ عُمَرَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ أَنَا مِنْهُمْ؟ فَقَالَتْ لَا وَلَنْ أَقُولَ ذَلِكَ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ

✧ “My abundant wealth may destroy me, for I am the wealthiest of Quraysh.” She said: “My son, give charity, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘Among my Companions are those who will never see me after I die.’” So 'Abd al-Rahman went out and met 'Umar and told him what Umm Salamah had said. 'Umar came and entered upon her and said: “Am I one of them?” She said: “No, and I will never say that to anyone after you.”
