حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَعْمَرِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ وَعَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ قَالُوا ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ الْعَيْشِيُّ ثنا أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ أَتَاهَا فَلَفَّ رِدَاءَهُ وَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى أُسْكُفَّةِ الْبَابِ وَاتَّكَأَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «هَلْ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ؟» قَالَتْ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ شَدِيدَةُ الْغَيْرَةِ وَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَبْدُوَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنِّي مَا يَكْرَهُ فَانْصَرَفَ ثُمَّ عَادَ وَقَالَ «هَلْ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ؟ إِنْ كَانَ بِكِ الزِّيَادَةَ فِي صَدَاقِكِ زِدْنَا» فَعَادَتْ لِقَوْلِهَا فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ عَبْدٍ يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ تَدْرِينَ مَا تَتَحَدَّثُ بِهِ نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ؟ تَقُلْنَ إِنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّمَا رَدَّتْ مُحَمَّدًا لِأَنَّهَا أَرَادَتْ شَابًّا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَحْدَثَ مِنْهُ سِنًّا وَأَكْثَرَ مَالًا قَالَتْ فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَزَوَّجَهَا

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: that he came to her, wrapped his cloak, placed it on the threshold of the door, leaned on it, and said: 'Would you like, O Umm Salamah?' She said: 'I am a woman of intense jealousy, and I fear that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ may see from me what he dislikes.' He then left, then returned and said: 'Would you like, O Umm Salamah? If there is an increase in your dowry, we will increase it.' She repeated her words, so Umm Abd said: 'O Umm Salamah, do you know what the women of Quraysh are saying? They say that Umm Salamah rejected Muhammad only because she wanted a young man from Quraysh, younger in age and with more wealth.' She said: So she went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he married her.
