حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ مَاعِزًا حِينَ جِيءَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ قَصِيرٌ أَعْضَلُ فَشَهِدَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ أَنَّهُ قَدْ زَنَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَلَعَلَّكَ» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ إِنَّهُ قَدْ زَنَى الْآخَرُ فَرَجَمَهُ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَقَالَ «أَلَا كُلَّمَا نَفَرْنَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَلَّفَ أَحَدُهُمْ لَهُ نَبِيبٌ كَنَبِيبِ التَّيْسِ يَمْنَحُ إِحْدَاهُنَّ الْكُثْبَةَ أَمَا إِنَّ اللهَ يُمَكِنِّي مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا نَكَّلْتُهُ عَنْهُنَّ»

✧ I saw Ma'iz when he was brought to the Prophet ﷺ: a short, muscular man. He testified against himself four times that he had committed adultery. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, “Perhaps you...” He said, “No, by God, he has indeed committed adultery, the other one.” So he stoned him. Then he delivered a sermon and said, “Indeed, whenever we go out in the path of God, one of them leaves behind a bleating like the bleating of a he-goat, giving one of them a small amount of milk. Indeed, if God enables me over any of them, I will make an example of him regarding them.”
