✧ Translation: Interpretation of His saying, "If only you had heard it" (the verse)

حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْغَنِيِّ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ « {لَوْلَا جَاءُوا عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ} » لَكَانُوا هُمْ وَالَّذِينَ شَهِدُوا كَاذِبَيْنَ {فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِالشُّهَدَاءِ فَأُولَئِكَ عِنْدَ اللهِ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ} «يُرِيدُ الْكَذِبَ بِعَيْنِهِ»

✧ From Ibn Abbas: "{Why did they not bring four witnesses to it?} If they had, they and those who testified would be liars. {And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah, who are the liars.} He means: the lie itself."
