✧ The Marriage of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Khadijah, Her Age, Her Death, and Some of Her Stories

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ ثنا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنْ وَائِلِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ذَكَرَ خَدِيجَةَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَسْأَمُ مِنْ ثَنَاءٍ عَلَيْهَا وَالِاسْتِغْفَارِ لَهَا فَذَكَرَهَا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَاحْتَمَلَتْنِي الْغَيْرَةُ إِلَى أَنْ قُلْتُ قَدْ عَوَّضَكَ اللهُ مِنْ كَبِيرَةِ السِّنِّ قَالَتْ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ غَضِبَ غَضَبًا سَقَطَ فِي جِلْدِي فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي اللهُمَّ إِنَّكَ إِنْ أَذْهَبْتَ عَنِّي غَضَبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَمْ أَذْكُرْهَا بِسُوءٍ مَا بَقِيتُ فَلَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الَّذِي قَدْ لَقِيتُ قَالَ «كَيْفَ قُلْتِ؟ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ آمَنَتْ بِي إِذْ كَفَرَ بِيَ النَّاسُ وَصَدَّقَتْنِي إِذْ كَذَّبَنِي النَّاسُ وَرُزِقَتْ مِنِّي الْوَلَدَ إِذْ حُرِمْتِيهِ مِنِّي» فَغَدَا بِهَا عَلَيَّ وَرَاحَ شَهْرًا

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ, Aishah said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Khadijah, he never tired of praising her and asking forgiveness for her. One day he mentioned her and jealousy overcame me until I said, 'Allah has compensated you with someone better than an old woman.' She said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ become angry with such anger that I sank into myself. I said to myself, 'O Allah, if You remove the anger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from me, I will never mention her with anything bad as long as I live.' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what I had experienced, he said, 'What did you say? By Allah, she believed in me when the people disbelieved in me, she affirmed my truthfulness when the people called me a liar, and she was granted children from me when you were deprived of them from me.' He then went back and forth to me for a month.
