حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ الْهِلَالِيُّ ح وحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّامَهُرْمُزِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ رَشَدِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ الْهِلَالِيُّ قَالَ ثنا عَمِّي سَعِيدُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ أَسَدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ الْبَجَلِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَفِيفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَفِيفٍ وَكَانَ أَخَا الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ لِأَبِيهِ قَالَ
وَرَدْتُ مَكَّةَ لِأَبْتَاعَ لِأَهْلِي مِنْ طِيبِهَا وَعِطْرِهَا فَأَوَيْتُ إِلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا تَاجِرًا فَأَنَا عِنْدَهُ وَقَدْ طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِذْ جَاءَ شَابٌّ فَقَلَّبَ بَصَرَهُ فِي السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِبَصَرِهِ قِبَلَ الْكَعْبَةِ فَلَمْ يَلْبَثْ أَنْ جَاءَ غُلَامٌ فَقَامَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ فَلَمْ أَلْبَثْ أَنْ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَامَتْ خَلْفَهُمَا فَكَبَّرَ الشَّابُّ فَكَبَّرَا فَرَكَعَ فَرَكَعَا فَسَجَدَ فَسَجَدَا فَقَالَ يَا عَبَّاسُ أَمْرٌ عَظِيمٌ قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ «أَمْرٌ عَظِيمٌ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ مَنِ الشَّابِّ؟» قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ «هَذَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ابْنُ أَخِي هَلْ تَعْلَمُ مَنِ الْمَرْأَةُ؟» قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ «هَذِهِ خَدِيجَةُ بِنْتُ خُوَيْلِدِ بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ زَوْجُ ابْنِ أَخِي وَهَذَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبِ ابْنِ أَخِي زَعَمَ ابْنُ أَخِي هَذَا أَنَّ رَبَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَمَرَهُ بِهَذَا الدِّينِ وَاللهِ مَا أَعْرِفُ أَحَدًا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ عَلَى هَذَا الدِّينِ غَيْرَ هَؤُلَاءِ الثَّلَاثَةِ»

✧ “I came to Makkah to buy perfume and fragrance for my family, and I stayed with al-ʿAbbas b. ʿAbd al-Muttalib, who was a merchant. While I was with him at sunrise, I saw a young man come and look up at the sky, then turn his gaze toward the Kaʿbah. Soon a boy came and stood to his right, and then a woman came and stood behind them. The young man said ‘Allahu akbar’ and the other two said ‘Allahu akbar’; he bowed and they bowed; he prostrated and they prostrated. I said, ‘O ʿAbbas, this is something momentous.’ Al-ʿAbbas said, ‘Momentous indeed. Do you know who the young man is?’ I said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘This is Muhammad b. ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAbd al-Muttalib, my brother’s son. Do you know who the woman is?’ I said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘This is Khadijah bt. Khuwaylid b. Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzza, the leading woman of Quraysh, the wife of my brother’s son. And this is ʿAli b. Abi Talib, my brother’s son. My brother’s son claims that his Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, has commanded him to this religion. By Allah, I know of no one on the face of the earth on this religion except these three.’”
