حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَنٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ

كَانَتْ أُمَامَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أُمَّهَا زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا قَالَ لَهَا «لَا تَزَوَّجِي فَإِنْ أَرَدْتِ الزَّوَاجَ فَلَا تَخْرُجِي مِنْ رَأْيِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ» فَخَطَبَهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَجَاءَتْ إِلَى الْمُغِيرَةِ تَسْتَأْمِرُهُ فَقَالَ لَهَا أَنَا خَيْرٌ لَكِ مِنْهُ فَاجْعَلِي أَمْرَكِ إِلَيَّ فَفَعَلَتْ فَدَعَا رِجَالًا فَتَزَوَّجَهَا فَهَلَكَتْ أُمَامَةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ عِنْدَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ وَلَمْ تَلِدْ لَهُ فَلَيْسَ لِزَيْنَبَ عَقِبٌ

✧ Umamah bint Abi al-'As—her mother was Zaynab bint Rasul Allah ﷺ—was married to 'Ali b. Abi Talib. When he died leaving her, he had said to her: "Do not marry; and if you desire marriage, then do not deviate from the advice of al-Mughirah b. Nawfal." Then Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan proposed to her. She came to al-Mughirah seeking his counsel, and he said to her: "I am better for you than he, so entrust your affair to me." She did so. He invited some men and married her. Umamah bint Abi al-'As died while married to al-Mughirah b. Nawfal, and she did not bear him any child. Thus Zaynab has no descendants.
