✧ From Abu Layla al-Ashʿari, the Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: “Hold fast to obedience to your leaders and do not oppose them, for obedience to them is obedience to Allah, and disobedience to them is disobedience to Allah. Allah sent me only to call to His way with wisdom and good exhortation. Whoever succeeds me in that is my ally. Whoever is given any authority over your affairs and acts otherwise, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. You will soon be ruled by commanders who, if asked for mercy, will not show mercy, and if asked for their rights, will not give them, and if commanded to do good, will reject it. You will keep away from them, and your assemblies will disperse until they cannot impose anything upon you except that you bear it willingly or unwillingly. The least that is your due is that you do not accept any gift from them and do not attend their gatherings.”
