حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ أَنَّ أَبَا فَاطِمَةَ حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ نَسْتَقِيمُ عَلَيْهِ وَنَعْمَلُهُ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ بِالْهِجْرَةِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا مِثْلَ لَهَا» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ نَسْتَقِيمُ عَلَيْهِ وَنَعْمَلُهُ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ بِالْجِهَادِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا مِثْلَ لَهُ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ نَسْتَقِيمُ عَلَيْهِ وَنَعْمَلُهُ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا مِثْلَ لَهُ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنَا بِعَمَلٍ نَسْتَقِيمُ عَلَيْهِ وَنَعْمَلُهُ قَالَ «عَلَيْكَ بِالسُّجُودِ فَإِنَّكَ لَا تَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَكَ اللهُ بِهَا دَرَجَةً وَحَطَّ عَنْكَ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً»

✧ I said: "O Messenger of God, tell us a deed that we can adhere to and perform." He said: "You must emigrate, for there is nothing like it." He said: I said: "O Messenger of God, tell us a deed that we can adhere to and perform." He said: "You must strive (in the way of God), for there is nothing like it." He said: I said: "O Messenger of God, tell us a deed that we can adhere to and perform." He said: "You must fast, for there is nothing like it." I said: "O Messenger of God, tell us a deed that we can adhere to and perform." He said: "You must prostrate, for you will not prostrate to God a single prostration except that God raises you a degree and removes from you a sin."
