حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ثنا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِي نَوْفَلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَقْرَبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ؟ فَقَالَ «صُمْ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ يَوْمًا» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَقْوَى قَالَ «صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ» قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زِدْنِي قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «زِدْنِي زِدْنِي صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ»
Translation

✧ I asked the Prophet ﷺ about fasting. He said: “Fast one day of the month.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, I am capable of more.” He said: “Fast two days of the month.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, give me more.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Give me more, give me more—fast three days of every month.”
