✧ An imam of ours, known as Abu Rimthah, led us in the afternoon prayer in our prayer place. With us was a man who had been present at the first takbir of the prayer. When Abu Rimthah finished, the man stood up to make up [what he had missed]. Abu Rimthah looked and said, “I prayed this prayer with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and Abu Bakr and Umar were standing in the front row to his right. There was a man who had been present at the first takbir of the prayer. The Prophet ﷺ prayed, then gave the greeting of peace to the right and left until we saw the whiteness of his cheeks. Then he turned around and faced the people. The man who had caught with him the first takbir of the prayer stood up to make up [what he had missed]. Umar jumped towards him, grabbed him by the shoulders, and shook him, then said, ‘Sit down, for the People of the Book were only destroyed because there was no separation between their prayers.’ The Prophet ﷺ raised his eyes to him and said, ‘God has guided you to the right course, O Ibn al-Khattab.’”
