حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالُوا ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادِ بْنِ لَقِيطٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي إِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ قَالَ

انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَ أَبِي نَحْوَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُهُ قَالَ أَبِي أَتَدْرِي مَنْ هَذَا قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاقْشَعْرَرْتُ حِينَ رَأَيْتُ ذَاكَ وَكُنْتُ أَظُنُّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا لَا يُشْبِهُ النَّاسَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بَشَرٌ ذُو وَفْرَةٍ بِهَا رَدْعٌ مِنْ حِنَّاءٍ وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْدَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ أَبِي ثُمَّ جَلَسَا فَتَحَدَّثَا سَاعَةً ثُمَّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِأَبِي ابْنُكَ هَذَا قَالَ إِيْ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ قَالَ حَقًّا قَالَ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ضَاحِكًا مِنْ تَثْبِيتِ شَبَهِي فِي أَبِي وَمِنْ حَلِفِ أَبِي عَلَيَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَا يَجْنِي عَلَيْكَ وَلَا تَجْنِي عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى ثُمَّ نَظَرَ أَبِي إِلَى مِثْلِ السِّلْعَةِ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي كَأَطَبِّ الرِّجَالِ أَفَأُعَالِجُهَا قَالَ لَا طَبِيبُهَا الَّذِي خَلَقَهَا

✧ I set out with my father toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When I saw him, my father said, “Do you know who this is?” I said, “No.” He said, “This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” I shuddered when I saw that, for I had thought that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was something unlike people. But he was a human with abundant hair, having traces of henna, and wearing two green cloaks. My father greeted him, then they sat and talked for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to my father, “Is this your son?” He said, “Yes, by the Lord of the Ka‘ba.” He said, “Truly?” He said, “I bear witness to that.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled, laughing at the confirmation of my resemblance to my father and at my father’s oath concerning me. Then he said, “Indeed, he will not be held liable for you, nor will you be held liable for him.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited, “And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.” Then my father looked at something like a wen between his shoulders and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am like the most skilled of men in medicine; shall I treat it?” He said, “No, its physician is the One who created it.”
