✧ Abu Shuraih b. 'Amr al-Khuza'i—who was among the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ—informed him that on the day of the conquest, Banu Ka'b encountered a man from Hudhayl whom they were seeking for a blood feud from the pre-Islamic era. He was in the sacred precinct, heading toward the Messenger of God ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him upon Islam, but they killed him. When the news of his killing reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, he became angrier than he had ever been. Banu Ka'b went to Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ seeking their intercession with the Prophet ﷺ. When evening came, he stood before the people, praised God as He deserves, then said: To proceed: God made Makkah sacred, and people did not make it sacred. God made it permissible for me only for an hour of the day yesterday, then it became sacred as God made it sacred. The most hostile of people against God are three: a man who kills within it, a man who kills someone other than his killer for a pre-Islamic blood feud, and by God, I will certainly pay the blood money for this man whom you killed. Abu Shuraih said: So the Messenger of God ﷺ paid his blood money.
