حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَجَاءَ أَنَبَأَ فَرَجُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ثنا أَبُو سَعْدٍ قَالَ

رَأَيْتُ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ دَخَلَ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَصَلَّى فِيهِ وَبَزَقَ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ الْيُسْرَى ثُمَّ عَرَكَهَا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَتَبْزُقُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَأَنْتَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ»

Translation

✧ I saw Wathilah b. al-Asqa' enter the mosque of Damascus and pray in it. He spat under his left foot and then rubbed it. When he finished, I said to him: "Do you spit in the mosque when you are one of the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ?" He said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ do."
