حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ قَالَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثَنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

أَقْطَعَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَرْضًا فَأَرْسَلَ مَعِي مُعَاوِيَةَ وَقَالَ «أَعْلِمْهَا إِيَّاهُ وَأَعْطِهٍ إِيَّاهُ» قَالَ لِي مُعَاوِيَةُ أَرْدِفْنِي خَلْفَكَ قُلْتُ لَا تَكُونُ مِنْ أَرْدَافِ الْمُلُوكِ قَالَ أَعْطِنِي نَعْلَكَ أنْتَعِلُ بِهَا قُلْتُ انْتَعِلْ بِظِلِّ النَّاقَةِ فَلَمَّا اسْتُخْلِفَ مُعَاوِيَةُ أَتَيْتُهُ فَأَقْعَدَنِي مَعَهُ عَلَى السَّرِيرِ ثُمَّ ذَكَّرَنِي الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ سِمَاكٌ قَالَ وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي كُنْتُ حَمَلْتَهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ granted me a piece of land and sent Muʿāwiyah with me, saying, “Mark it for him and give it to him.” Muʿāwiyah said to me: Let me ride behind you. I said: You are not one of the riders behind kings. He said: Give me your sandal to wear. I said: Wear the shade of the she-camel. When Muʿāwiyah became caliph, I came to him and he seated me with him on the couch. Then he reminded me of the hadith. Simāk said: He said: I wish I had carried him in front of me.
